On March 1, 2015 new procedures were introduced for the screening of hand luggage to detect any traces of explosives with the help of so called ETD equipment (Explosive Trace Detection). Beginning in mid-August 2015 and progressively until February 1, 2017 the screening using ETD will increase and to also apply to passengers. The rules of the ETD is based on common EU regulation requirements and covers all EU airports.
Passengers and cabin baggage will randomly be selected for testing. The control is done by samples taken from the clothing, footwear or hand luggage which is then analyzed. Control leaves no traces or damage anything, but it takes a few extra minutes at the security checkpoint. If the check is no reading you can proceed directly. Should the equipment show positive, an additional check has to be made.
